Bankwest Stadium will be the venue for the biggest boxing event to be held in Sydney in more than decade.
The ‘Sydney Super Fight’, which will be held in Parramatta on December 16, will see the undisputed star of Australian boxing, Tim Tszyu, return home to fight quality Kiwi boxer Bowyn Morgan, as well as former NRL star Paul Gallen taking on UFC great Mark Hunt in the battle of the big men.
The history-making event is in partnership with the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, which identified the event as a unique opportunity to drive visitation to NSW and amplify the state’s promotion around the globe.
George Rose, CEO of promoter No Limit Boxing, said the Sydney Super Fight will be an unforgettable event to end what has been a challenging year for everyone.
“It’s incredible to be in this position to put on one of the biggest live sporting events in Australia after the year we’ve all had,” he said.
“Hats off to everyone, especially the NSW Government, for the way in which they have managed the response to the pandemic.”
Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, welcomed the event, estimated to deliver over $1 million to the visitor economy, as another major win for western Sydney and NSW.
“Sydney Super Fight joins an impressive list of major sporting events that have been secured for our state through the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW,” he said.
“With Sydneysider Tim Tszyu, son of Australian boxing legend Kostya Tszyu, in the ring against the Kiwi champion, this will be a contest that boxing fans won’t want to miss, and I have no doubt Sydney Super Fight will be a sell-out.”
Acting Minister for Sport and Parramatta MP, Geoff Lee, said the recent easing of restrictions made this even better news for fans.
“We can now have up to 15,000 spectators taking in the blockbuster program at Bankwest Stadium in a COVID-safe way,” he said.
Tickets for the upcoming Sydney Super Fight are on sale now through Ticketek. Tickets start at $29 and are strictly limited due to COVID-19 restrictions.
