A homicide investigation is underway following the death of a woman at Wentworthville overnight.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Lane Street about 2.40am today, following reports a woman had been injured.
Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics and located a woman deceased. She is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be the 23-year-old occupant.
“A crime scene has been established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers,” a Police spokesperson said.
“Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, have established Strike Force Palca to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, which is being treated as suspicious.”
As inquiries continue, investigators hold concerns for the welfare of a man, known to the woman, and would like to speak to him.
The man, aged 24, is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170cm to 180 cm tall, of medium build, with brown hair and blue eyes.
As the investigation continues, police are appealing for the man or anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
