Autumn events set to wake Parramatta from its slumber

The City of Parramatta is planning to bring life back to the city with the announcement of its outdoor autumn event series, which includes the return of the award-winning Parramatta Nights.

Running from March 17 to April 23, the jam-packed program is set to be the biggest event series in Parramatta since the pandemic began.

The launch of the event series comes after City of Parramatta postponed its long-awaited Summer Sessions concert series, which was originally scheduled to run on January 25 and 26, citing COVID and changes to public health orders as the Omicron wave continued to sweep across New South Wales.

With free activities catered to people of all ages, the event program will feature the inaugural Parramatta Nights Street Festival, two concerts in Parramatta Park, jazz in Parramatta Square, and performances by some of Australia’s most renowned First Nations artists.

Jazz musicians will feature as part of the event series.

People can also expect art installations, performers and food and beverage offerings, with a family-friendly skate and play event during the school holidays for younger audiences.

“As restrictions ease, I welcome residents and visitors back to our city to revel in live performances and entertainment as part of our popular Parramatta Nights and Skate and Play events,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Donna Davis said.

“This year, we’ve expanded the program to make it bigger and better, and we can’t wait to share it with you. You can skate, play, eat, sing, dance and be entertained. It’s an autumn event series for everyone.”

Cr Davis believes the event series will help back local businesses, as well as boost the creative arts industry.

“Parramatta Nights is the perfect way to reinvigorate our city, support our local businesses and the creative arts industry, which have all taken a hit over the past two years,” Cr Davis said.

Running over six weeks, City of Parramatta said that all events in the autumn series will be delivered in line with public health orders.

The full schedule is available on Council’s website.
