Man charged over fatal Prospect crash

A man has been charged after another man died following a crash in Prospect last year.

About 12.30pm on September 10, 2024, emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway, Prospect, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Police were told two motorcycles were travelling along the Great Western Highway together before they collided with an SUV.

One of the riders – a 57-year-old man – died at the scene.

The other rider – a 42-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital for further treatment.

The driver – a 30-year-old man – was taken to the same hospital as a precaution under police guard.

Initial inquiries revealed the SUV was reported stolen.

A crime scene was established and officers from Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident.

The driver of the SUV was later taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with ‘drive motor vehicle during disqualification period’, ‘take and drive conveyance without consent of owner’, and ‘custody of knife in public place’.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on September 11, 2024.

Following further inquiries, the man was charged with further offences, including ‘dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous’, ‘dangerous driving occasions grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous’, ‘negligent driving(occasioning death)’, and ‘negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)’.

He was then refused bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on December 5, 2024.

On Friday, January 31, he appeared at Penrith Local Court where he was refused bail and will next appear before Penrith Local Court on March 14.
