Push for new school zone on Kissing Point Road

Students at St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas wait to cross Kissing Point Road.

A local MP is supporting a Dundas school in its fight for safer roads for students and other pedestrians.

State Member for Parramatta Donna Davis is encouraging residents to sign a petition advocating for a 40km/h school zone on Kissing Point Road, which borders St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas.
Currently the road falls into a 70km/h zone.

Davis said Kissing Point Road has become increasingly unsafe over the past 12 years, particularly for school students at St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas.

“St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas approached me last year with concerns about the safety of their students crossing Kissing Point Road,” she told Parra News.

“Students at St Pat’s have to cross a six-lane 70km/h zone on Kissing Point Road just to get to school.”

She believes dropping the speed limit to 40km/h during peak school times would help to make it safer for kids to walk to school.

“We’ve got kids as young as 12 crossing this high-speed road. Children are our most precious pedestrians and we want the safest possible environment for them to get between home and school,” she added.

“The school community has been campaigning for a 40km/h school zone for many years and I am joining them in their advocacy because pedestrian safety, especially around schools is so important.”
