Fresh new plans reveal a three-storey childcare centre could soon be moving into Parramatta.
A Development Application lodged with City of Parramatta has proposed a 99-place childcare centre for 55-57 Thomas Street.
The site, which is currently occupied by two single-storey homes, is located within an established residential area and is just a 450-metre walk to the Western Sydney University Parramatta Campus.
Under the proposal, the dwellings would be demolished to make way for the new facility.
The Statement of Environmental Effects said the proposed building will provide a modern childcare facility, which will serve the needs of people who live and work in the local area and also provide “much-needed” employment opportunities for local residents.
“The development seeks to utilise the land in accordance with the zoning and take advantage of its size and location within an established residential estate, local schools, commercial opportunities and public transportation,” the document said.
“The development also aims to provide a modern building set within a landscape setting that not only addresses its frontage but will play a positive role in increasing valuable childcare places within Parramatta.”
The centre would consist of six separate indoor play areas, two outdoor play areas and a basement level for parking. A total of 25 car spaces would be provided.
Designed to cater for children aged between zero and five-years-old, the centre would operate between 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, if approved.
