Good news for commuters – City of Parramatta has reduced all day parking at Parramatta Station Car Park back to $14.
Following a lengthy campaign from Councillor Kellie Darley, Parramatta Council has agreed to commit to a three-month trial in a reduction of fees for the popular carpark.
Under the trial, drivers will now be able to park for up to 18 hours for just $14 at Parramatta Station Car Park.
It comes after the cost to park at the carpark jumped up $8 last year, from $14 to $22.
Darley said the increase in fees resulted in the reduced usage of the carpark – revealing a forecasted $2.1 million loss in revenue from Council’s multilevel carparks for the financial year.
She believes lowering the cost will improve utilisation of the carpark, which will then help to increase Council’s revenue and support people doing it tough with the cost-of-living crisis.
“For me this is a win all round, it will increase revenue, support people who are working in our city or commuting through it,” Darley added.
The trial fee of $14 will run until June 30 and applies for people entering Parramatta Station Carpark from Monday to Saturday, parking between five to 18 hours.
It will not affect the flat rate of $10 all-day parking rate for Sundays.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter said the multistorey carpark is in a central location that benefits employees from government, finance and corporate business driving in for work.
“The cost-of-living pressures continue to rise so we’re trialling reduced parking prices at this central location to take some of the pressure off people’s hip pockets when coming into our CBD,” Zaiter said.
“This means if you’re driving in to work or visiting Parramatta for the day, you will get to enjoy all day parking at an affordable rate at a central location that is in walking distance to shops, Parramatta Square and some of the best eateries in western Sydney.
“Parramatta Station Carpark has a capacity of 1,145 parking spots which means local and surrounding businesses will also benefit from more people using the carpark.”
