The Diocese of Parramatta will hold a Solemn Mass for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis on Sunday, April 27 at 11.00am at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Parramatta, the day after his funeral in Rome.
It is expected that Catholics from across western Sydney and the Blue Mountains will gather in prayerful remembrance, joining the universal Church in mourning the death of the Holy Father and commending him to the mercy of God.
This special Mass will be celebrated in accordance with the Church’s liturgical tradition, reflecting how Pope Francis wished to be remembered – not as a powerful person, but as a humble and dedicated Servant of God.
The Mass will offer everyone a special opportunity to pray for Pope Francis and give thanks for his life and ministry that was characterised by compassion, service, dialogue and respect for all he encountered.
The Mass will be marked by solemn liturgy, incense, and sacred music including voices from the St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir; as all are invited, Catholics and non-Catholics, to offer prayers for the eternal rest of the Holy Father.
