Western Sydney’s creative underdogs have an opportunity to shine with the expert advice of indie action filmmaker Maria Tran.
The ‘Echo 8’ director will reveal her secrets in an exclusive workshop at Launch Pad Parramatta called ‘Take Action: Crowdfunding Secrets from Indie Action Queen Maria Tran’.
“Anything to do with the arts has always been seen as a privilege or a luxury, and in this area, it’s really hard to forge a career,” Tran explained.
“There’s always a fight to exist, and as I get older, the more I realise how important stories are – especially the western Sydney underdog stories.”
Tran’s mission to put western Sydney stories on the map began her crowdfunding journey.
“‘Echo 8’ was my “home movie” that was shot in 14 days with $10,000,” Tran began.
“Now it’s on streaming platforms and we’re going on to completing the second and third; that was all through crowdfunding and community support.”
Crowdfunding is also a way to test your concept.
“With the workshop, I want to delve not only into crowdfunding and using myself and a number of global case studies as examples of success, but I also want to work with participants to delve deep and think about their own creative projects,” Tran stated.
“These participants can be from different fields of work – in fact, being from a different field and wanting to venture into being creative is a beautiful thing because you’re new, you’re fresh, and you’re open to learning.
“I want to help people organise their ideas, put it into some sort of format, build momentum, and activate that.”
If you have a creative dream to chase, let Maria Tran help you at Launch Pad Parramatta on July 10 from 5.30pm. Book a free ticket online at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/take-action-learn-the-crowdfunding-secrets-of-maria-tran-tickets-1409675700969?aff=siberg.
