Major upgrades now underway at Dundas Public School to replace demountable classrooms

The project will see all demountable classrooms – some of which have been in place for almost two decades – replaced with a new building featuring six classrooms, two multipurpose spaces, two learning commons, and a range of upgraded amenities.

Stephen Edwards Constructions has been appointed as the contractor for the upgrade, with works set to be complete by the end of 2026.

Other projects are underway across the greater Parramatta area, including school upgrades, a new high school and new public preschools.

Once complete the 16 upgrade projects will see more than 200 demountables removed from schools in the Parramatta area and replaced with high-quality, permanent school facilities.

Acting Education Minister Courtney Houssos said the Dundas Public School upgrade was much-needed.

“This major upgrade is not just an investment in infrastructure – it’s an investment in the future of the students in the Parramatta region,” she said.

“The Minns Labor Government is replacing demountables with modern classrooms – to ensure we are providing access to free, high-quality education for every NSW family.

“We will be replacing all of Dundas Public School’s demountables with modern, purpose-built classrooms – delivering in a single term what the former government failed to do in more than a decade.

“Western Sydney families have waited long enough for the state-of-the-art facilities they deserve, and our Government is making it happen.”

Parramatta MP Donna Davis said it was a big win for the local area.

“I’m proud that the Minns Labor Government is delivering real improvements for local families, delivering better schools and more teachers to give our kids the world-class education they deserve, right where they live,” she said.

“This is a big win for our school communities in Parramatta.

“Teachers and students will have access to contemporary, permanent spaces designed for the way students learn today.”

Dundas Public School Principal, Lee Shipley, said: We’re thrilled that construction is now underway. The new facilities will provide welcoming, flexible spaces where students can thrive.

“It’s an exciting chapter for our community, and we’re looking forward to watching the transformation take place.”
