Council dramatically sacks CEO Gail Connolly

Gail Connolly.

City of Parramatta Chief Executive Gail Connolly has been terminated from her high-powered position with immediate effect.

Councillors made the decision last night, voting 9-6 to fire the Council boss.

The decision follows months of negative press and various allegations raised by The Sydney Morning Herald around her behaviour.

Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter issued a statement late into the evening following the tense meeting.

“Since joining in March 2023, Ms Connolly PSM has led the delivery of a number of significant projects and initiatives for the City of Parramatta,” he said.

“I would like to assure our community and ratepayers that our Councillors, executive team and staff remain committed to delivering on our services and commitments and making the City of Parramatta the best place to live work and play.”

Council also resolved to appoint Executive Director City Services and Projects, George Bounassif as Acting CEO while the recruitment process commences for a new CEO.

A discussion around Connolly’s position was not on last night’s Council meeting agenda, with the issue discussed in a confidential session.
