A fresh start for basketball in the local area is officially here, with the introduction of Parramatta-Cumberland Basketball Association (PCBA).
Last week, Basketball NSW confirmed the affiliation of PCBA as the newest member of the game’s governing body in NSW.
Effective immediately, PCBA will be the recognised provider of community basketball in the Parramatta and Cumberland Local Government Areas.
Based out of the Camellia Indoor Sports Centre, the Association will work closely with local schools, community groups and basketball participants of all ages to grow the sport across two of the fastest-growing regions in the state.
As the popularity of basketball continues to grow in New South Wales, the brand new Association will help ensure that players, coaches, referees and volunteers in Parramatta and Cumberland are supported with inclusive programs and quality pathways surrounding the sport.
Outgoing Basketball NSW CEO, Maria Nordstrom, said the affiliation of PCBA is a key step in the sport’s long-term vision for greater Sydney.
“This is a fresh start for basketball in Parramatta and Cumberland,” she said.
“We’ve seen incredible demand for the sport in these areas, and this new Association gives us the structure to meet that demand.
“I want to thank the team at Sydney Sports Management Group for their professionalism and commitment, and we look forward to supporting PCBA in building a strong, inclusive basketball community.”
The change will also see the closure of the West Sydney Wolves as a member of Basketball NSW.
All former members of the Wolves will now become members of the new PCBA, it has been confirmed recently.
Representative basketball will also have a fresh look next year, with PCBA’s representative program set to compete under a new name and identity from the 2026 season.
Sydney Sports Management Group CEO, Richard Price, said he’s looking forward to a long and healthy relationship with the PCBA.
“This strategic partnership is a testament to our commitment to improving community sports infrastructure,” he said.
“The Parramatta-Cumberland Basketball Association is a cornerstone of its community, and our mission is to ensure that basketball is at the core of our operation. We look forward to a successful and collaborative long-term relationship with the PCBA.”
Basketball NSW said it welcomes PCBA into their community and looks forward to supporting their growth in the years ahead.
