City of Parramatta reveals New Year’s party plans

With a series of New Year’s Eve fireworks displays planed across the city, Parramatta will kick start 2023 with a bang.

Although Christmas celebrations have only just begun, City of Parramatta is already gearing up to bring in the New Year. With outdoor events set to take place in five locations, the Parramatta community will be able to stay local and enjoy celebrations close to home this year.

The celebrations come after the success of last year’s program, which originally trialled the fireworks displays at five different locations in an effort to be COVID-safe.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Donna Davis said the positive feedback the events received has led to Council continuing the series of New Year’s Eve fireworks.

“We’re preparing for another spectacular series of New Year’s Eve fireworks across the City of Parramatta,” she said.

“Last year we trialled fireworks at five sites across the City of Parramatta and they were so successful that we’ve brought them back.

“We received such positive community feedback – it’s a great opportunity to ring in the New Year together with family, friends and neighbours close to home.”

The family-friendly events will be held at Binalong Park in Old Toongabbie; Max Ruddock Reserve in Winston Hills; Doyle Ground in North Parramatta; Dundas Park in Dundas Valley; and George Kendall Riverside Park in Ermington.

With gates set to open from 5pm, guests are encouraged to enjoy live entertainment in the lead up to the fireworks at 9pm.

It’s recommended that guests bring a picnic basket or Esky with food and drinks, plus foldable chairs, a picnic rug, refillable water bottles and weather protection to make the event a comfortable experience for all.

There will also be a limited offering of food vendors at the event, such as ice cream and snacks.

“New Year’s Eve is one of the most popular events on our calendar. It will be a fantastic experience to watch the dazzling fireworks displays from our very own local parks,” Cr Davis said.

“Numbers are limited, so I encourage everyone to book their tickets!”

The first lot of tickets went on sale on December 2, with remaining tickets per site to be released at 12pm on Monday, December 19. Each ticket will cost $5 and there is free entry for children under two-years-old, with every ticketholder to be given a free gift upon entry at each site.

Numbers are strictly limited to ensure safety.
